The Parade of Pronghorns is growing into something even bigger than we first imagined.
On Thursday, September 10, the Rockpile Museum Association will bring together twenty original works of art for one unforgettable evening at the Rockpile Museum. The live auction will feature ten life-size pronghorn sculptures and ten artist-designed European mounts, each created by a Wyoming artist with a story of its own.
The life-size herd is already showing off on the Rockpile Museum grounds, giving residents and visitors a first look at the creativity, history, and personality behind each artist. Each sculpture is completely different. Some celebrate Wyoming’s wildlife and open spaces, while others explore local history, culture, memory, and the people who have shaped the state.
Together, the herd offers a colorful and deeply personal look at Wyoming through the eyes of its artists.
Ten More Original Works Join the Auction
This year’s event will also include ten resin European mounts transformed into original works of art.
These pieces give artists a completely different canvas to work with, creating a collection that is bold, imaginative, and unlike anything previously featured at the museum. Like the life-size pronghorns, each European mount will be auctioned during the live event.
That means guests will have twenty opportunities to take home an original piece of Wyoming art while supporting the Rockpile Museum Association.
An Evening at the Museum
The Parade of Pronghorns Auction will take place outside the Rockpile Museum under the event tent, 900 W 2nd Street, Gillette, Wyoming.
Rockpile Museum Association members, participating artists, and invited sponsors will be welcomed to a special preview beginning at 5:00 p.m. Public doors will open at 6:00 p.m., with the live auction expected to begin around 6:30 p.m.
Guests will be able to view the artwork up close, enjoy food and drinks, meet artists and supporters, and take part in both live and online bidding.
A Small Works Gallery will also feature original artwork donated by participating artists.
These smaller pieces will be available for purchase during the event, giving guests another opportunity to bring home original Wyoming art.
Bring Home a Piece of the Parade
For younger artists and families, Paint Your Own Prairie kits will also be available.
Each kit includes a 3D-printed pronghorn, paints, a brush, and everything needed to create a miniature addition to the herd. Preorders are now open, and quantities are limited.
The kits have quickly become one of the most playful ways for the community to participate in the Parade of Pronghorns and create a piece inspired by the larger sculptures seen around town.
Art That Supports the Museum
Every sculpture, European mount, small work, sponsorship, and ticket purchased helps support the Rockpile Museum Association.
Funds raised through the Parade of Pronghorns help the Association continue supporting museum programs, exhibits, educational opportunities, community events, and the preservation of Wyoming history.
This event would not be possible without the artists, underwriters, sponsors, donors, volunteers, and community members who have helped bring the herd to life.
The Parade of Pronghorns may have started with ten sculptures, but it has become much more than a public art project. It is a celebration of Wyoming artists, Wyoming stories, and the community that continues to support the Rockpile Museum.
